Good Evening All SHS Band Families
Our high school concert band students have been diligently preparing for our upcoming performances. Our first ever Festival of Bands Concert featuring our SMS Bands and SHS Concert Band on Thursday, February 28th starting at 7:00pm in the SHS Auditorium. At this performance the SHS Concert Band will preview their performance for the annual OMEA HS Large Group Event performance scheduled for Friday, March 15th OR Saturday, March 16th.
Prior to winter break I scheduled a few after school sectionals for students in preparation for our winter concert. These sectionals were very well attended and proved to be extremely beneficial. I am now scheduling after school sectionals in preparation for our upcoming performances as stated above. As I stated back in November, sectionals offer the unique opportunity for students to receive individual assistance with their band music and to additionally help the section as a collective improve their particular music for a concert cycle. ***With the gracious support from the Streetsboro Band Boosters I am bringing in instrumental specialists for these sectionals. These instructors are exceptional and sought after musicians from all over Northeast Ohio. They are bringing a wealth of experience and prowess to provide each of our students unique instruction that is instrument specific.
Please see the attached schedule for February & March. You will notice each instrument section is scheduled for four (4) one-hour after school sectionals prior to our OMEA Large Group Performance on Friday, March 15th OR Saturday March 16th (We will not know a definitive date or time for this performance until approximately two weeks out).
For these sectionals to be worthwhile and to have the greatest impact on our growth it is expected that we prioritize attending to these sectionals. I’m sure there will be concerns with work schedules, other school commitments, and transportation. I am communicating these dates now so we can mark them in our calendars and workout all necessary logistics (including notifying our employers) that allow us to all attend our sectional times.
I am understanding that your time is extremely valuable and you are all busy young adults. I feel I have proposed a scheduled that is realistic and attainable for us all.
